Netanyahu Briefly Leaves Corruption Trial for Gaza Flotilla Security Talks

(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu temporarily left a court hearing in his ongoing corruption trial on Wednesday to participate in security consultations linked to an international aid flotilla heading toward Gaza, according to reports.

The trial session took place in Tel Aviv, where Netanyahu initially requested a shortened hearing of three hours. That request was rejected by the judges. He then asked for a one-hour break to attend security discussions at the Defense Ministry before returning to court, which the judges approved, Channel 12 reported.

Netanyahu is currently standing trial on charges including corruption, bribery, and breach of trust across three separate cases, with a potential prison sentence if convicted. The indictment was filed by the attorney general in November 2019.

As stated by reports, the security meeting he attended was connected to an international flotilla expected to approach the Gaza Strip. No official statement was released afterward regarding the outcome of the discussions.

The flotilla, organized under the Freedom Flotilla initiative, reportedly arrived in the port of Syracuse in Sicily after departing from Barcelona on April 12. The mission aims to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.

This is the second such attempt by the Global Freedom Flotilla. A previous effort in September 2025 reportedly ended after Israeli forces intercepted the vessels in international waters in October, detaining hundreds of activists on board before later deporting them.

The current mission includes activists, civil society representatives, and volunteers from multiple countries participating in what organizers describe as a humanitarian aid effort for Palestinians in Gaza.
